Compost this book? I would suggest not, because that is the topic of my review! You might ask if this book is of any use, and I am going to answer "It depends". Depends on what? Well, your knowledge of composting is one criterion, and another criterion might be what interest draws you this book. Is it to learn how to compost? Well, this book is probably for you, as it is mainly for beginners. Seasoned composters probably won't find anything of earth-shaking significance in here. Are you a composting amateur looking for some general information? The book is probably for you as well. How about a good dose of humor? It has that. Dare I say politics? Surely you've heard of the Sierra Club?! They published the book.I don't think I would describe myself as either an amateur or expert of composting, but somewhere in the middle. With the above in mind, even though I did obtain some valuable information in this book that might help me compost a little better, this book is better suited to individuals that are new to composting. It provided a good general look at composting and suggested a few variations of it (such as, sheet composting, biodynamic composting, and indore composting), of tools and other paraphernalia that might be of help in your composting endeavors, and it delved lengthily into the economics of composting much of your organic waste accumulation (though, there are limitations). Looking at the negatives, if you are an individual that is looking for information to help you to compost basically anything organic, you are going to find that this is not the book. The authors put a limit to what they suggest to you to compost, which is somewhat understandable, if you consider all the things you can compost (gasoline, anyone?). The compostables that they do cover in this book are pretty basic, so you won't be learning how to compost extravagant material, like your feces, for example (the authors discourage it). For that item you'll need to go to such literature as The Humanure Book by Joseph Jenkins. A severe negative that I drew from this book is the authors have government regulation on mind for the commercial composting industry, which is something that I believe will hamper creativity, crush incentive, and cause the price of commercially produced compost to rocket upward.
Overall, I would say that if you are new to composting and don't want to purchase a more technical book on composting, this could definitely help you, but I would caution you on a point. Make sure that if you read it you read it critically so that you are not unduly influenced. The authors are environmental types and do have opinions (who doesn't?) regarding the way things are and the way things are going and should be going. If you can, I would suggest that you would first try to obtain a copy from your local library to see if the book is of any interest to you before you go out and purchase your own copy.
With fury I wrote and with resignation this review came to an end.

Compost This Book Tom Christopher Marty Asher 9780871565969 Books Reviews
This book manages to give lots of great "how-to" information and still keep a sense of humor about itself. After all, that's more than 200 pages on encouraging stuff to rot. Every serious gardner should have a good composting book and I would highly recommend this one.
The tone may be cutesy but the information is solid. The authors cover everything from compost history to the national garbage problem. And in between there's a little science and plenty of how-to on constructing your pile, what to put in it, the pros and cons of commercial composting products, and using the finished product. The text is sprinkled with trivia and suggestions, from cutting your water bills to heating a greenhouse with compost heat.
good quality!
Loved this book! Well written and entertaining--this writer could make a telephone interesting reading, plus lots of good information. One of my favorites; I could not think of composting it though, it is part of my permanent library.
